Lauren A. Horsman
Lauren Horsman was born and raised in Chillicothe, Missouri. She graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism, cum laude, in 2005 and graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 2008. In law school, Lauren was selected to the Order of the Barristers and managing editor of The Urban Lawyer. While in law school, Lauren was an intern at the Johnson County, Kansas District Attorney’s Office, where she prosecuted domestic violence cases, conducting numerous bench trials and her first jury trial.
Lauren began her legal career as a judicial clerk for both the Missouri Court of Appeals and Missouri Supreme Court before joining the Missouri Attorney General’s Office. As an Assistant Attorney General, Lauren defended state agencies in civil rights litigation, employment matters, and personal injury lawsuits. During her tenure at the Missouri Attorney General’s Office, Lauren successfully conducted several jury trials in both state and federal court as well as argued appellate matters in front of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the Missouri Court of Appeals. Prior to joining Chapman and Cowherd, P.C., Lauren practiced law at Bryan Cave LLP, a large international law firm, where she was a member of the Commercial Litigation Service Group and participated in litigation in both Missouri and Kansas state and federal courts.
Lauren’s practice includes all aspects of the litigation process, including case strategy, motions practice, depositions, trials, and appeals. Lauren has a wide range of experience representing clients in contract disputes, commercial foreclosure and related actions, negligence actions, general business matters, drafting of wills and estates, land disputes, child custody, and criminal defense work. Lauren provides representation for all of her clients’ legal needs, with a practice primarily focused on civil litigation, estate planning, family law, and criminal defense.
Lauren is admitted to practice in Missouri, Kansas, United States District Courts in Missouri and Kansas, and the Eighth Circuit. Lauren is an alumna of the Missouri Bar Leadership Academy, Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Chillicothe R-2 School Board, Tria Sorosis, a Girl Scout troop leader, and member of the United Methodist Church of Chillicothe (along with her husband Ryan and their two daughters). Lauren enjoys spending time with her family, raising her daughters as proud Chillicothe Hornets, and supporting the Mizzou Tigers.
